The Rabury & Delphieu doll is inscribed R 4D and this is a vintage 1984 head. It is fine, smooth porcelain (French Bisque) that thas been fired many times to achieve the desired effect. The body is the finest white leather and it is jointed at the knees, butt, and arms. It twas entirely hand crafted using the patterns derived from the antique bodies. It is machine sewn and cork stuffed. The feet are leather also. (The legs have been bent to show the gussets in the knees.) T he hands are typical French hands used by doll artisans in the'80's.
The head is a lovely reproduction of the French doll. The painting is professional, delicate, the colors used resemble the antique. The eyes are a deep hazel color and are paper weight, all glass and formed inthe tradition of the old French dolls. The paperweight is a drop of clear crystal applied over the color. This brings out the beauty and depth ofthe eye. These eyes are one-of-a-kind entirely made by Williams. The wig is human hair, softly styled in bangs and loose curls.
The costume consists of pantalettes, full slip, and a pretty two-piece dress. The fabric is fine ivory-colored lawn. (cotton blend) An antique design pattern was used. There are three rows of lace applied to the lower edge of the belted skirt which fits snugglyto the leather body. The over blouse is slightly curved at the bottom and it is adorned with 1" gathered lace. The sleeves are fully gathered and finished at the wrist with a band that closes with snap fastener. There isa lace application to the sleeves also. The neckline is finished with a two-pieceround collar with hand sewn, gathered lace. The plasteron at the front is lightly shirred and decorated with lace and tiny blue roses. Thebonnet is lavishly decorated with the same lace, roses, and ribbon..
